Our Walkingshaw Family
Our Walkingshaw colony is based around “Portavogie Lass”, winner of The Millar Gold Cup from Dinard, France, in 1996 – being the only bird on the day from a convoy in excess of 2000 pigeons. She went on to be a goldmine hen, producing winners and, more importantly, breeders of winners which still dominate and excel in distance racing across the sea from the UK and France today.
We have 7 grandchildren of Portavogie Lass as the backbone of this family, in addition to birds bred through “Portavogie Queen”, Dtr. Of Portavogie Lass, 4 times France, “Newry Queen”, Dtr. of Portavogie Lass, 1st Open Winner NIPA St, Malo 2008, an inbred Ash hen out of “The Duddy Hen” – breeder of 5 x 1st Sec. B NIPA, A Dtr. Of 1st Sec. Ypres (to Glasgow) from a colony of Walkingshaws owned by Harry Horn. We also have many other Walkingshaw additions, rounding off this lovely family of pigeons of both pedigree and performance.
Of recent performance are the Brother and Sister birds “Extreme Heat” and “Sunset Lady”, both bred by Paul Swindell and raced by him from France to Ireland very successfully. “Extreme Heat” was 4th National from Quimper and “Sunset Lady” was 3rd Open from Lamballe in 2 very difficult races of over 450 miles across the sea from France. Their background is also of Portavogie Lass lines, and we are lucky to have many sons and daughters of both birds in addition to many inbred descendants and performance birds from that particular line of birds.
